Curriculum Vitae
Skills set
What can I bring to the table?
Qualifications - 1st Class BAHons in Theatre Design from Rose Bruford 2005-2008
Drawing - It’s my favourite form of communicating an idea and the fastest way to get everyone on the same page. Talk, draw, discuss, draw changes discuss etc
Designer - The initial stage of taking a brief and discovering a clients narrative, bringing that to life through colour, form and texture and coming up with a design is literally magical for me. It’s where my brain is at its best. I love conceptual design and focussing on the details that really elevate an experience.
Commercial acumen - I’m very well rehearsed in working to a budget, costing, working to a timeline, logistics of delivery and installation. Problem solving in tight situations whilst keeping a level head is key. I am equipped with all the essentials for a project to run smoothly.
Maker - I’ve become the maker over the past 11 yrs specialising in paper sculpture and paper installations and become recognised as a Master Artisan, representing the UK in Paper Sculpture at the Michelangelo Foundation. I’ve always loved making things, using my hands and working out how to make something. It’s a beautiful process
Model making - making models of a design to help a Client / Director / lighting team etc visualise a space transformed. Kind of old school, but still massively appreciated in the industry and very effective for communicating an idea!
Procreate I’ve used Procreate as my main tool for creating a design deck and its second nature to me now. I’ve dabbled in procreate dreams animation also. I used to be able to work my way around the adobe suite but it’s been many years now. If it’s required in a job then I’m quick and eager to learn my way back around it. It wont take me long at all.
I love learning and self development. I take constructive advice very well and I’m very adaptable.
Personal Statement
I am kind, patient, warm. I trust and believe the best in people as my default setting. I work incredibly hard and get a great sense of satisfaction out of doing so.
I’ve worked with and encountered some very difficult people in my personal and professional career, and I’m proud of the resilience and professionalism I’ve acquired along the way in order to deal with these character types.
Above all things, I am professional and respectful of other humans. I treat people how I hope to be treated.
I don’t want the spotlight. I like listening and let my designing and artworks do the talking. I love collaborating but I’m equally happy to handle working on my own.
I get a great sense of satisfaction from encouraging people and supporting others and being a listening ear with advice if its asked for.
I would say I’m ambitious and thirsty for new design opportunities but I like to make the best with what I’ve got at the moment too. Thirsty, but not greedy!
Two of my favourite things in life are metaphors and a good play on words.
Two least favourite things, repetition and spitefulness. Both are nearly always unnecessary and a form of laziness!

“I've had the genuine pleasure of collaborating with Nicola Dobrowolski at Dobrowolski Designs, and I can say without hesitation that she brings something rare and valuable to every project: a combination of exceptional creative talent and an approach that makes the entire process feel effortless and enjoyable.
Nicola's work as a designer and art director is consistently outstanding. Her ability to translate brand vision into compelling visual storytelling is remarkable. Whether we're developing experiential activations, from elegant window displays to large-scale hotel and restaurant installations, Nicola brings both artistic sensibility and strategic thinking to the table. Her ability to transform spaces and create memorable brand experiences is exceptional, understanding instinctively how our brand should come to life in different environments and ensuring every activation feels both striking and authentic.
What sets Nicola apart is her approach to collaboration. She's incredibly flexible and reactive, adapting quickly to evolving briefs and tight timelines without compromising on quality. In the fast-paced world of brand marketing, this agility is invaluable. Nicola listens deeply to understand our objectives, asks thoughtful questions, and then translates our sometimes-abstract ideas into concrete, beautiful design solutions.
Nicola consistently exceeds expectations. She's the kind of creative partner who proactively identifies opportunities, suggests improvements, and ensures every detail is considered. Her professionalism shines through in her communication, her reliability, and her commitment to getting things right. She takes genuine ownership of our projects and celebrates our successes alongside us.
Perhaps most importantly, Nicola is simply wonderful to work with. She's warm, welcoming, and brings positive energy to every interaction. Even when we're under pressure or navigating challenging creative problems, Nicola maintains her grace and good humour, making what could be stressful situations feel manageable and even enjoyable.
For any brand seeking a designer who combines creative excellence with genuine partnership, I cannot recommend Nicola highly enough. She's become an invaluable extension of our team, and we're grateful for her continued collaboration.”
